The Adventure of the Devil's Foot
When returning to his residence, Holmes told Watson about what he thought of the case. It happened as soon as Tregennis left. For those cards players did not change their seats. They did not even put their chairs under the table. It was observed there were no footprints outside the room. Mr. Tregennis headed to the vicar's house after leaving the place. Was the devil the true murderer? Holmes did feel confused.
In the afternoon that followed, while Holmes was thinking hard, an explorer named Leon Sterndale suddenly came to visit him. He was very much concerned about the progress of the case. He said he intended to go to Africa. Actually he had already departed, but came back to inquire about the case in particular. He was related to the family of the dead. Holmes did not tell the explorer anything about the case. He left disappointedly. Holmes kept a close watch on him secretly to know well about his actions, and found out he had told the truth. Holmes did not get back home until far into the night.
